Old-school hip-hop, traditional classic rock, and spooling
electronic vibes were the initial factors behind the building of the alternative metal quintet, Linkin Park. The band's southern
Californian musical roots were also an underlying basis, for drummer Rob Bourdon, guitarist Brad Delson, and MC/vocalist Mike
Shinoda formed a tight friendship while still in high school. Shortly after graduation, art student and DJ Joseph Hahn hooked
up with bassist Dave "Phoenix" Farrell and Shinoda for the band, Xero. Hybrid Theory came later, but the band opted on the
name Linkin Park when singer Chester Bennington was the last piece added to the band in 1999. Soon the band became a noticeable
face at the Whisky as well as favorites in and around Los Angeles. Zomba Music's Jeff Blue was one of the few who didn't turn
the band down for a contract at the turn of the millennium - Linkin Park signed to Warner Bros. after being turned down three
times in late 1999 and got to work on their debut album. Taking a piece from their past, they named the album Hybrid Theory.
It was released in fall 2000 and it showcased their likes for fellow alternative acts such as the Deftones, the Roots, Aphex
Twin, and Nine Inch Nails. The Dust Brothers also collaborated on the record, as well as producer Don Gilmore (Pearl Jam,
Eve 6, Tracy Bonham). Singles such as "Crawling" and "One Step Closer" were massive radio hits and video favorites among the
TRL crowd on MTV. Joint tours with Family Values and the Project: Revolution Tour with Cypress Hill led the band to play 324
shows in 2001. Linkin Park was in demand. Come January 2002, Hybrid Theory received three Grammy nominations for "Best Rock
Album" and "Best New Artist." A month later, Linkin Park walked away with an award for "Best Hard Rock Performance" for "Crawling."
They spent the remainder of the year hold up in the studio, again working with Gillmore, recording a follow-up to their eight
times platinum debut Hybrid Theory.
Linkin Park's sophomore effort Meteora
was released in March 2003; the first single "Somewhere I Belong" was an instant hit. The second annual Projekt Revolution
tour got underway in spring 2003 with Linkin Park joining Mudvayne, Xzibit and Blindside; Summer Sanitarium dates with Metallica,
Limp Bizkit, Mudvayne and the Deftones followed in July and August. ~MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide
Brad Delson

Bradford Phillip Delson (born December
1, 1977) is the guitarist of the rock/nu metal band Linkin Park. He was born in Agoura, California. Brad is Jewish. He is
known for wearing large headphones onstage.
He graduated from Agoura high school in 1996 and in that year he formed
Xero with Mike Shinoda. He moved to college in 1996 to 2000 and graduated from UCLA with a degree in Communications but didn't
go to law school so he could pursue a career in the band.
Brad's first instrument was the trumpet. Brad and fellow
bandmate bass guitarist Dave Farrell (aka Phoenix) were room-mates in college so they would go to practice together. He calls
himself 'Big Bad Brad' and he signs his name 'BBB'. He is a big fan of MTV and Britney Spears. Brad's obsession is sleeping.
Before
Xero, he used to be in a band called Relative Degree with fellow Linkin Park bandmate drummer Rob Bourdon. Relative Degree
fell apart after just one show.
Brad used to colour his hair purple in high school and was once voted the Most Unique
in his high school yearbook. He used to have a mullet either in high school or college.
Brad hasn't revealed yet the
reason why he wears his headphones on stage although he did say this in a shoutweb interview: "I will say that it has something
to do with the matrix. Not the movie, the actual matrix and being connected with it. Mr. Hahn (Linkin Park's DJ) has been
rubbing off on me. I'm starting to integrate sci-fi humor into my schtick. It probably isn't too popular with a mass audience."
"But I won't give him credit for the headphones. That's all mine."
Mike Shinoda

Mike Shinoda is the emcee of nu metal band Linkin Park, which means he performs the rapping parts. He was born on February 11, 1977 in Agoura, California. Recently, he moved to Los Angeles, where the band is based. He attended Agoura high school along with several
of the members of Incubus.
Later, he graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California with a major in illustration. He also studied graphic design quite heavily, resulting in him getting a job as a graphic designer straight
out of college. According to him, the most poignant moment in his life so far has been getting his diploma. On a side note,
Mike had to do his term eight final exams the same weekend that then-unsigned Linkin Park had to do a showcase for six major
record labels. With his experience as a graphic artist, he ended up designing the street soldier figure on the Hybrid Theory album cover. As well, he designed the artwork/logo for Styles of Beyond's
debut album, 2000 Fold.
Mike is half-Japanese, and is a distant relative of famed Russian compser Tchaikovsky. He was raised in a "really, really, liberally Protestant church," (as
according to Shinoda himself) but it is unknown whether or not he still practices his religion. He wears contacts, and loves
Japanese food. His musical tastes vary widely, from Tool to Dido. On May 10, 2003, he married Anna Lovejoy (now Anna Shinoda).
After his first concert experience, Mike was inspired to become a musician.
The concert was a Killer B's show which included Anthrax and Public Enemy. He took piano lessons for ten years, beginning with classical, but later
moving to jazz and then hip-hop. From there began his love of emceeing. In 7th grade, Mike met Brad Delson, the future guitarist for Linkin Park. Sometime near the end of high school, inspiration hit
and they joined with Rob Bourdon and started a band called Xero, whose style was rather different from
the Linkin Park we know today.
Rob Bourdon

Rob Bourdon is the drummer in the Nu Metal band, Linkin Park. He composes all the drum beats for the songs made by the band. Rob was
born in Calabasas, California on January 20th, 1979, but now lives in Los Angeles. Rob was brought up in a Jewish household, but whether he continues to practice his religion or not is
still unknown. He grew up in the same town as Incubus, and went to high school with some members of Hoobastank.
He started to play the drums in elementary school (3rd or 4th grade) after seeing an Aerosmith concert. His mother knows Joey Kramer, Aerosmith's drummer, so he got
to go backstage and see the entire production. Rob also plays the piano in his spare time. Linkin Park is not his first band. When he was around
thirteen, he played in bands with his friends and they covered songs that were popular at the time, including Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit. It was around that time he met Brad, and they
played together for about a year in a band they called Relative Degree. They practiced a great deal, but after their
first and only show, it fell apart.
According to Brad Delson, the guitarist for Linkin Park, Rob is a perfectionist. When they rehearse or record,
he is known to never play a part wrong, and will always point out things that are not up to par from the other band members.
Joseph Hahn

Name: Joseph Hahn Born on 1977 Joseph
Hahn is the DJ mixer of the group his skills permitted the sounds for In The End, Cure For the Itch, Dont Stay and well, almost
all the songs.
Besides he works together with Mike Shinoda to make the songs and editing them in computer. He uses
Rane TTM 54 DJ mixer, Vestax PDX-2000 Turntables and AKAI MPC 2000.
Chester Bennington

'Chester Bennington' (born March 20, 1976) is the vocalist of the rock/nu metal band Linkin Park. He was born in Phoenix, Arizona. He is notable for producing loud and very high pitched vocals. Chester screams in most songs as well.
He wears black horn rimmed glasses on occasion, and is short and lanky in appearance. His hair is of particular interest as
it changes style and colour frequently.
Chester was formerly the lead vocalist in a band called Grey Daze, who were popular across Arizona and the United States, but didn't achieve global status.
He married his wife Samantha on Halloween at the age of 20, and because he was too
poor to afford an actual wedding or engagement ring, the two of them have rings tattooed on their ring fingers. (Done before
Pam and Tommy had theirs done) They have one child, a boy named Draven, born April 19th, 2002 at 1PM.
Chester's Tattoos As of 8/03, Chester has 12 tattoos: 1. Upper Left Arm - (Pisces)
2. Upper Back - (Six arms spread out) 3. Lower Back - (Linkin Park lettering in old English) 4. Upper Right Arm - (Japanese
Koi Fish) 5. Lower Left Calf - (Hybrid Theory Soldier) 6&7. Left and Right Arms - (flames) 8. Right Calf - (dragon) 9.
Right Finger on Left Hand - (engagement band) 10. Pinkie Finger on Right Hand - (birthstone in gold ring) 11&12. Two dragons
on his back on the left and right side.
"Tattoos exude pain and pleasure all at the same time." - Chester
In airports Chester has to take off all his metal spike bracelets, etc and he has
a little bag or something that he arranges them all on. They must be in the same place every time.
Chester seems to have rather bad luck with getting sick on tour.
On 8/8/01 during Ozzfest he was bitten by a recluse spider at a hotel in the Boston
area. A portion of Bennington's arm swelled and he ran a fever, but he finished the whole tour. Most people require hospitalization
after a recluse spider bite.
Chester continues to struggle with a hiatal hernia, an ailment that forced Lp to cancel their show
in Evansville, Indiana (April 11, 2003) due to the hiatal hernia.
In 2003, Lp was forced to cancel their European tour in June due to a viral infection Chester developed.
He was sent to intensive care at LA's Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre when he lost feeling in his body and collapsed. |
